Study plan

The guide to organizing your studies

The study plan shows you which courses to take each semester. It helps you stay on track throughout your studies. By following it, you can organize your workload and make sure you graduate on time.

The CME curriculum combines six compulsory modules with elective courses which you should select from the CME module catalogue.

Study plan (full-time)

Students who started studying before winter semester 2023/24 (PO-Version 2011) must complete Speech and Audio Signal Processing as a compulsory module. They only need to choose 5 ECTS of Technical Courses. Please refer to the examination regulations PO-Version 2011.

It is possible to diverge from the study plan. However, you always need to account for the following conditions:

  • The duration of studies in the Master’s degree program CME is 4 + 2 semesters. Four semesters is the regular duration of studies (Regelstudienzeit). Students are allowed to exceed the regular duration of studies by two semesters.
  • Not all courses are offered in each semester. Several courses are only offered in either winter semester or summer semester.

Study plan (part-time)

Studying part time allows students to complete a degree program with a reduced number of hours per semester. The content and objectives of the degree program remain unchanged, but the workload per semester is halved and the degree program stretched out over a longer period of time.

The courses of the part-time study program take place at the same time as the courses of the full-time study program. There are no special night classes nor weekend classes.

If you are a non-EU student with a visa/residence permit for study purposes you are generally not allowed to change to part-time studies because your visa/residence permit for study purposes depends on your status as a full-time student.

Exception: Pregnant students with a visa/residence permit for study purposes might get permission from the immigration authorities to study part-time. If this is your case, please consult with your local immigrations office before submitting a request to change to part-time studies to the Student Records Office.

If you are a non-EU student but have a residence permit that allows you to work full-time (e.g. work visa) or if you are an EU citizen, you can choose between full-time and part-time studies.
